X-Cleaner 3.0 Takes On and Blocks Messenger Spam
by Jan Hertsens
X-Cleaner 3.0 can now help non-technical users block message spam.
Out of the box, Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP systems allow anyone on the network to pop up messages on your screen. You do not need to be running any web, email, or instant messaging software. These pop-ups have nothing to do with MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ or any other messenger application.
There is no need for the sender to know anything about your computer and your computer doesn't care who sends the message. If you have messenger services running you are vulnerable you will inevitably get this type of spam.
Unfortunately most pop-up blockers will not block messenger-based pop-ups because they are not spawned by surfing activities.
To activate this protection go the tab called ?Cleaning? and select:
Verify network ?Layered Service Provider? settings. Click Clean.
This feature is available in both the X-Cleaner freeware and deluxe versions.
